Let's put the vase aside for a moment and look to another part of the picture plane. As I investigated the style of "Alma-Tadma, attempting to understand why his portrayals and subject matter moved me, I have produced a series of renders in Lightwave which are out of the mainstream.
Most of you who recognize my name probably remember me as "Poser Boy" or some such equally complementary nickname. No matter. I am who I am. As are we all. Most advised me to begin to model my own forms and to gain some respect within the community. Your point was well taken. I have begun this journey. One which I'm sure to many is so basic that it merits only a passing glance on the way to viewing something of substance. I accept this. At least I sleep more peacefully at night in this regard. All the simple objects are modeled by me. My figures are still, for the time being , modeled in Poser.
Still as an individual I am moved to investigate that direction which seems most interesting and appropriate to me. I am out of the mainstream. I understand and accept that. In movies, if everyone likes your work you are a success. In Art, if everyone likes your work you are a failure.
That is to say only that each must pursue their own particular vision. Even if that vision is clouded in the beginning. This is why as individuals we work. to progress and evolve in statement and technique.
So many times these days the term "Artist" is so awkwardly used. As if we are uncomfortable with even calling ourselves that. Inevitably the conversation spins down to it's lowest point and ends with the derogatively pronounced "Artiste" as an indictment.
Many whose knowledge is hard won at the university level and who are pursuing careers in the cgi field must look upon my feeble attempts at rendering as painfully awkward at best. Please excuse me. I hope that over time I will give you something of more substance.
Until then I humbly offer this study I have titled "The Church of Man".
